RE: Tired of adding water to Batteries, Buying Optima

I"m not sure why Winnebago (and associates) put three 12v house batteries in their coaches. They were not meant to be deep cycle. And yes, adding water way more than four 6v deep cycle ever required. I understand the OP thoughts. Good luck.

RE: MPG... A perspective

While having taller gears in the transmission and final drive will cause lower RPM at cruise, it ain't going to work in the Mountain West. We would all be in the right lane with hazard lights blinking. On the other hand, living in Florida where the highest elevation is Mt Dora at 380+ feet, it would work well. East coast models and mountain models?

RE: Stunning Newell coach!

Heck with the coach. The gigantic Craftsman tool box would seal the deal...Wait, why so big?

RE: Ready to hit the road

Diesel has a captive buyer..the truckers. People try to explain it away by describing how refineries work. Price fixing and no new refineries since early 1970's, what do you expect?

RE: Oh-oh, my MH dream may be evaporating....

Perhaps you didn't hear John McCain say his grandfather came home from the war (in retirement) and died the next day. Johns father retired and died shortly thereafter. My grandmother Hannah(from Ireland) said "The casket have no pockets" meaning you can't take it with you. And there is a certain age/time you realize that to be true. If your wife says it's not for her, and you owe her a lot according to your post, take flying lessons. Aircraft do not depreciate, plus you get there quicker. Happy Thanksgiving to all!! Kerry D. RE: Basement/Ducted AC

If you are 6'2" like me, roof air is right in the ear. In other words it's loud and uneven flow. Our 08 Winnie Tour with basement air is QUIET. Don't know what people who don't have late model basement air are complaining about. And no, it's not loud in the bed room at all. Can't hear it in the living/dining area.

RE: Your experience with full width mud flap

That is really a great thought/question. On an aircraft when you put full or even 3/4 flaps down, the airspeed decreases dramatically due to DRAG. If you want to maintain the same speed you must throttle up (push the "gas" pedal) harder. Great thought to ponder. I'll monitor this thread until a professor comes along and solves it. Thanks. Kerry

RE: Will Beaudry Survive ?

The OP is on the money, in all of his posts. I'm afraid we won't like whats coming in the not too distance future. On the other hand, large DP are cash cows for remaining manufactures. They may have to lower the "lie sheet" (MSRP) to stay in business. I hope no more go under. But with Warren Buffet buying Coachmen, maybe we are all just little boys whistling past the graveyard at midnight. There may be hope despite all the doom and gloom.

RE: Gas prices cash/credit or debit card

Right around the corner gas is $1.95gal, diesel 2.95gal. Is that price differential pretty much what everybody else is seeing?

RE: Compass suggestions

Not to beat this to death...The north/south runway at Reagan National was 36, now 1 (01). Quite a shift. Science magazine claims the poles have shifted (reversed) at least 40 times as far as they can determine.

RE: Compass suggestions

4tumbleweeds is correct in the true north and magnetic north. In the early 70's magnetic north was over the iron deposits in minnesota. Acording to Flying magazine it's now almost to the artic pasageway.

RE: Sportscoach introduces a new 45' tag axle?

I didn't state my point clear enough. Here's Sportscoach coming out with a new BIG model, while most others are hunkering down and trying to get rid of their inventory. Who's doing the right thing?

Sportscoach introduces a new 45' tag axle?

Quite a surprise! Sportscoach is now producing a 45' tag axle. What do you suppose they know that the rest of us do not? There's one for sale at the big dealer south of Fort Worth, TX. Kind of amazing.

RE: Monaco reports earnings

Nascarcruzin: That was a great post about Ford/GM (I know this thread is about Monaco). One of the responders to the article outlined how many countries are building manufacturing plants in this country. Who would have thought, ten years ago, that we have become a third world country that auto manufacturers are "outsourcing to". If "they" get interested in motorhomes, all this teeth gnashing about U.S.A. builders will be for naught. We've done it to ourselves.

RE: Who's going to survive...

Nobody has mentioned Coachmen/Sportscoach. They seem to be hanging in there. Of course they make practically every type of camping vehicles. I would rate them highly as far as survivability. They could end up being "King of the road".
